One of the most bizarre episodes of medieval Jewish history is the conversion of the Khazar kingdom to Judaism.
The Khazarian episode–if we are to accept the consensus view that it actually happened, and not Dr. Stampfer’s contrary position–is not a successful story in the history of Jewish survival. What went wrong? What can we learn from their experience about contemporary Jewish survival?
