Always proud to work with the brilliant team at Unpacked on these sophisticated explainers.
Good morning fellow students of Jewish History!
Several years ago my wife read a notice about a woman in our neighborhood who was seeking a life-saving kidney donation. My wife didn’t know her, but she swabbed anyway with the Renewal organization. Initially she was matched, but secondary testing suggested not, so my wife was not given the opportunity to donate. She was disappointed (and I was relieved). Months later, though, another match came through, and on the eve of Yom Kippur, she completed the process by donating one of her kidneys to save the life of a person now living in Connecticut (and I was proud).
Renewal was with us all the way. We believe in the value of this organization, and encourage you all to support it in their annual fundraiser below.
Ruach Hanegev is a school in the south of Israel that had a tremendous impact on our youngest son, Aryeh. They are located in Kfar Rtamim, the first community west of the farthest reach of October 7 invasion, and after participating in dramatic rescues of survivors of the Nova massacre, they were heavily affected by the ensuing war, closing down for the remainder of the year. Now they are back with renewed energy and a strong enrollment for the coming year. We all share Aryeh’s enthusiasm for this remarkable school and its dedicated leaders.
Join me for a live, in-person lecture at the Queens Jewish Center.
