Who Was Joshua?

The Bible describes how the Jewish people, emerging from Egyptian servitude and decades of wandering in the Sinai desert, followed Joshua’s military leadership to conquer the Land of Israel and establish the ancient foundations of their Torah-centered society. This lecture will survey the archeological and historical record to understand the larger context of the Biblical account.

Part II of the lecture series “ISRAEL: The Land and its People” offered during the Spring 2017 semester at the mighty Avenue J campus of Touro College. Free and open to the community. Sponsorships are available at bit.ly/thefriendsofjewishhistory.

  1. In Joshua 13:1-6 it says clearly that Yehoshua did not capture the entire land, and it names there all the places that were left uncaptured

  2. 15 Hashem Eloheicha will raise up unto thee a Navi from among thee, of thy achim, kamoni (like me [Moshe, Ex 32:30]); unto him ye must listen; Who is this Navi like Moses, only compared to Moses , He existed ? or He will come? thank you

  3. Excellent insight to Joshua. However I think that the book was heavily edited which give rise to problems the numbers in the ambush. What one has to consider is that the land was not empty and that if there were 600,000 fighters Joshua would easily of conquered the land. There is also the possibility that Egypt was very active in controlling Canaan.i agree with you that it took centuries for the belief in. Jewish God took root

  4. Thanks for the excellent lecture. I think that the book was heavily edited which gave rise to prob
SMS number in ambushes etc. If the. U bets were correct

  5. Thanks for your excellent lecture . I think that the book of Joshua was heavily edited which gave rise to problems like the number in the ambushes.I also think that if the number of 600,000 was correct they would of had no problems. I agree that the concept of one Jewish God took centuries to take root
